Biography of Gregory Benton Enholm:
Gregory Benton Enholm, a distinguished utility analyst, educator, and elected official, was born on January 15, 1954 in Washington, DC, Greg developed an early interest in finance and analysis that shaped his diverse career. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in economics from the University of Florida, equipping him for roles in the financial and educational sectors. He did additional graduate work in economics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Greg's professional journey in finance spanned from the early 1980s, including positions as financial economist for the Wisconsin public utility regulatory commission, a securities analyst at Merrill Lynch Mortgage Capital, Inc., and as Vice President and electric utility stock analyst at Salomon Brothers from 1985 to 1992. In that capacity, he provided expert insights on utility regulation and industry trends, often quoted in major publications like The New York Times and The Christian Science Monitor. Greg later established his own financial advisory firm and published two books on utility financial and regulatory issues. He co-edited and contributed to the seminal book "Reinventing Electric Utility Regulation" (1995), published by Public Utilities Reports, which examined evolving dynamics in the electric sector with input from top regulators and executives. Enholm also served as a high school math teacher in both public and private schools in California.
Shifting to academia, Greg became a college professor, teaching mathematics, statistics, and related subjects at Heald College, DeVry University, and Contra Costa Community College. His passion for education extended to public service when he was elected as the Ward 5 Trustee for the Contra Costa Community College District Governing Board, serving from 2012 to 2020.
During his tenure as an elected official, he championed student access, major facility improvements, fiscal accountability, and initiatives like the College and Career Access Pathways program. He is especially proud that his efforts to significantly expand the community college facilities are memorialized with his name on bronze plaques on buildings at Diablo Valley College and Contra Costa College.
Greg was admired for his sharp analytical skills, commitment to community enhancement, and approachable demeanor. He enjoyed playing disc golf.
